As a lead prop designer for Brown Opera Productions of Igor Stravinsky's A Soldier's Tale I was tasked to design and fabricate all the props used throughout the show. Responsibilities included research, developing the overall visual style and branding of the play, working within a tight budget and timeframe, collaborating with set and costume designers and helping produce the director's vision.
First steps included script reading, taking prop inventory, research, and creating a mood board inspired by the constructivist art style. Next steps including sketching, collecting reference images and receiving approval with the director before fabricating the props. A few of the props are shown below.
Laser cut and spray painted cardboard guns
Custom designed money
Leather bound "Devil's Book" with copper embellishments
CNC engraved aluminum medallion
Images from the show
Other props included a custom backpack, portrait, hand mirror, and tableware.
Act 1 - Soldier holds up money from a wooden cart
Act 2 - The soldier flips through the devil's book
